As a prelude to the WPL game at Waratahs Sports Ground women from our Waratahs teams joined together to play an exhibition 11 v 11 game against Barnies Women.
The ODFA women’s subcommittee is working very hard towards a stand-alone women’s V11’s football competition in Orange. We are working towards creating a pathway for juniors to transition into seniors which will enable them to continue playing the game they love.
Playing at 4:00 pm before the WPL game (Waratahs v CYMS) meant that there were many spectators who were treated to a great game of female football.
No goals had been scored before half time with both sides displaying some awesome talent.
Shortly after half time Barnies scored. Followed shortly thereafter with a goal for Waratahs scored by Tyarna Pavy. With the score drawn at 1 all, players in attack and defence for both teams were working overtime moving the ball up and down the field. With the sun going down and the lights coming on Waratahs were able to score again.
Many of the Waratah players had never played on the main field, nor under lights so this was a new experience for them.
Final Score Waratahs 2 Barnies 1.
Thank you to our Officials and Barnies. This game was played in good spirit and this is what we want to promote and which will hopefully encourage others to join ODFA affiliated Clubs.
Thank you to our coach Scott who has been working hard with the Waratah players. His hard work is showing in how players are improving weekly.
Also a big thank you to our ball girl – Maddie – she did an awesome job chasing the ball.
It is very hard to single out one player who stood out in the evening, each and every Waratahs player put in 100%. Congratulations!
